Module 14, Bedside cupboard COMODINO
The traditional function of the bedside table was to serve as storage place for books and pharmaceuticals as well as a shelf for the clock radio and the bedside lamp. The bedside table in same height as the mattress, a drawer below and a shelf little above the floor was the standard design. The bedside table was only in use at night and only for a few hours, during the days it was left in peace. Depending on the region the bedside table has also different names, such as nightstand, bedstand or night table. We have chosen for this DiT-permamobile the Italian name COMODINO.
Of course COMODINO is located near the bedside, in the retreat room. But this room should not be only active at night, but also should serve the user as a reading and writing area or a room to welcome a private guest. When the bed is turned to a couch (Module 15: MORPHEUS), then the bedside table turns into a coffee table. Thus we have to add swivel castors to the bedside table, so that we do not have to carry the table around in the room. But we also added some additional tasks for COMODINO in order to provide a fulltime job for COMODINO:
- Coffee table, when the bed turns into a couch
- Storage table for a writing desk
- Breakfast table for coffee and cake
- Place for a mini library
- Place for a clock radio
- Drawer for private possessions
- Pull up stool with a cushion for short-term guests (you can’t sit long on it)
And even possibly as an extension of the dining table in the dining room.
